How about a social media spring clean?

All over the world, women are redefining their womanhood, to live their life on their own terms. Women are getting in touch with themselves and their bodies. They are embracing their natural selves and rewriting the rules around the portrayal of the female body. This is part of the body positive movement which is pushing back against the current toxic mainstream beauty standards.

In the fashion industry, advertising, Hollywood and the media, the female body is portrayed as Caucasian, slim and toned. Social media is a platform that is full of women like this. Thousands of weight loss success stories; countless before and after photos. Endless celebrities showing off their sculptured bodies. But this is not the norm in our society; most women don’t, and will never, look like this. We start comparing our bodies to this stereo type and find ourselves sadly lacking. This social media “hall of fame” is a source of shame for many of us.

But I want to know, you can start to spring clean your social media and get rid of all the sites you follow that, quite frankly, make you feel sh** about yourself.

There is social media out there that is pushing back against the norm. So, if you feel like you want to follow something different, see different social media sites that truly reflect the female persona and expose us to the diversity of the female body, then check out these sites that I’ve listed below. (these are just the ones I follow on Instagram and they really inspire me. There are countless more if you go fishing).
